The Roman invasion of Britain was one of the most significant events ever to happen to the island. Four centuries of Roman occupation had a deep and lasting influence on Britain that can still be seen today. The Romans affected local language, culture, geography , architecture and even religion .
The second lesson provides a historical overview about the Celts and an account of their major achievements. originally from Central Europe, the Celts occupied and lived in many parts of Western Europe. In Britain, they left a lasting linguistic and cultural impact.

The first lesson provides students with an overview of the oldest inhabitants of present-day Britain and some of their achievements that we know little about. The limited knowledge we have about those primitive people are based on archeological evidence.
This course tackles British civilization from its beginnings to the 17th century. Upon completion, students should
be able to demonstrate an understanding of the foundations of British civilization and the political, socio-
economic and cultural developments it went through during its early stages. They should also be able to provide
historical evidence to support generalizations and interpretations about British society, thought and politics. The
course is designed for first year students and is tackled during the first and second semesters.
