This is not the first time the world is afflicted by a deadly epidemic (like Coronavirus). History has known many pandemics such as tuberculosis, Spanish flu and smallpox. In the mid 14th century an infectious disease known as  "the Black Death" or "the plague" struck  Europe , Asia and North Africa. In England, the number of deaths equaled almost half of the population. The plague made important changes in the English society. For the first time peasants (the deprived working class of that time) realized how valuable they were and revolted against the injustice of serfdom few years after the end of the horrors. The revolt was the first step towards a gradual decline of feudalism in England.

Fast and lethal, the Black Death spread more than a mile per day
